A warm, cozy fall cocktail that combines tequila, spiced apple cider, and fresh lime juice with a cinnamon salt rim. Born from a happy accident, this easy-to-make margarita is perfect for Halloween parties, Thanksgiving dinners, or any autumn gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ounces reposado tequila (or blanco)
  • 3 ounces spiced apple cider
  • 1 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 1 ounce triple sec or orange liqueur (e.g., Cointreau)
  • 1/2 ounce agave syrup (optional, for extra sweetness)
  • Ice cubes
  • 2 tablespoons coarse salt (e.g., Maldon sea salt)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • Apple slices or cinnamon sticks (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cinnamon salt rim: On a small plate, mix 2 tablespoons coarse salt with 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon. Run a lime wedge around the rim of a chilled glass, then dip the rim into the mixture to coat evenly. Set aside.
  2. Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice cubes.
  3. Add 2 ounces reposado tequila to the shaker.
  4. Pour in 3 ounces spiced apple cider.
  5. Add 1 ounce fresh lime juice.
  6. Add 1 ounce triple sec or orange liqueur. If using, add 1/2 ounce agave syrup.
  7. Stir briefly with a spoon, then cover and shake vigorously for 15 seconds until the shaker feels frosty.
  8. Fill the prepared glass with fresh ice cubes.
  9. Strain the margarita into the glass over the fresh ice. Use a fine-mesh strainer if desired to catch ice shards.
  10. Garnish with a thin apple slice and/or a cinnamon stick. Serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, chill your glasses before rimming. Use fresh lime juice—bottled juice will taste flat. The cinnamon salt ratio is 2:1 salt to cinnamon; don’t overdo the cinnamon. If making a pitcher, combine all liquid ingredients ahead of time and refrigerate; add ice only when serving to avoid dilution.
