These perfect juicy burgers are easy to make, packed with flavor, and ideal for family BBQs. They deliver a smoky, juicy, and tender burger experience that brings everyone together around the grill.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound (450g) ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 burger buns (brioche recommended)
  • Optional toppings: sliced cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, red onion rings, ketchup, mustard, mayo

Instructions

  1. Preheat your grill to 400°F to 450°F (204°C to 232°C), about 10-15 minutes.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently with your hands without overworking the meat.
  3. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each into a round patty about ¾ inch (2 cm) thick. Press a small dimple in the center of each patty with your thumb.
  4. Brush the grill grates with olive oil to prevent sticking.
  5. Place patties on the grill over direct heat and cook for 4-5 minutes per side for medium doneness (160°F / 71°C internal temperature). Avoid pressing down on the patties.
  6. In the last minute of cooking, add a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty if desired and close the grill lid to melt.
  7. Toast the buns on the grill for 1-2 minutes until golden but not burned.
  8. Assemble the burgers by placing patties on buns and adding your favorite toppings. Serve immediately.

Notes

Do not overwork the meat to keep burgers tender. Make a thumb dimple in patties to prevent puffing. Avoid pressing patties while grilling to retain juices. Let patties rest 3-5 minutes after cooking before assembling. Use a meat thermometer to ensure safe internal temperature of 160°F (71°C). Toast buns while burgers finish cooking to save time.
