A quick and easy upgrade to instant ramen featuring a soft egg and spicy sriracha butter for a comforting, flavorful meal perfect for dorm life.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pack instant ramen noodles (e.g., Nissin Top Ramen Chicken Flavor)
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon sriracha sauce, or to taste
  • 1 stalk green onion, finely sliced
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce (optional)
  • Pinch of garlic powder
  • Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Bring about 2 cups (475 ml) of water to a gentle simmer in a small pot. Carefully lower one large egg into the water using a spoon. Cook for exactly 6 minutes for a soft, jammy yolk.
  2. Immediately transfer the egg to a bowl of cold water to stop cooking. Let it sit for 2 minutes, then gently peel the shell.
  3. In the same pot, bring 2 cups (475 ml) fresh water to a boil. Add the ramen noodles and the included seasoning packet. Cook for 3 minutes until noodles are tender but still springy.
  4. While the noodles cook, mix 1 tablespoon softened unsalted butter with 1 teaspoon sriracha sauce in a small bowl. Stir until fully combined and creamy.
  5. Remove the cooked noodles and broth from heat. Stir in the sriracha butter mixture; it will melt and swirl into the broth, creating a rich, spicy base.
  6. Add a pinch of garlic powder and 1 teaspoon soy sauce (if using) to boost depth. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
  7. Pour the ramen and broth into your favorite bowl. Carefully place the peeled soft egg on top. Sprinkle with sliced green onions and sesame seeds for texture and fresh flavor.
  8. Break the egg yolk so it runs into the broth for extra creaminess. Slurp away and savor the cozy, spicy goodness!

Notes

Use a gentle simmer to avoid cracking the egg. Soften butter before mixing with sriracha for smooth emulsification. Adjust sriracha to taste. Peel egg carefully to keep it intact. For gluten-free, use rice noodles and tamari instead of soy sauce. Butter can be softened in microwave if no stovetop is available.
