These spooky, salty-sweet witch finger pretzel rods are made with white chocolate, almond slivers, and candy eyes. They look impressive but take only about 25 minutes of active work, making them a perfect Halloween treat for parties or classroom snacks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 24 pretzel rods (thick, sturdy, e.g., Snyder’s of Hanover)
  • 12 oz (2 cups) white chocolate chips (e.g., Ghirardelli or Guittard)
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil (optional, for smoother coating)
  • Pink or green gel food coloring (e.g., Americolor)
  • 24 almond slivers (flat and wide)
  • Candy eyes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Lay out pretzel rods, almond slivers, and candy eyes.
  2. Melt the white chocolate: Place white chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each, until smooth (about 1.5 to 2 minutes total). Add coconut oil if using and stir until combined.
  3. Add food coloring: Stir in 2-3 drops of pink or green gel food coloring. Add more for deeper color if desired.
  4. Dip the pretzels: Hold a pretzel rod by one end and dip the other end into the melted white chocolate, coating about two-thirds of the rod. Let excess drip off.
  5. Place on baking sheet: Lay the coated pretzel rod on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with remaining pretzels, spacing them about an inch apart.
  6. Add the fingernails: While chocolate is still wet, press an almond sliver onto the tip of each pretzel rod, with the wide end sticking out slightly like a fingernail.
  7. Add the eyes (optional): If using candy eyes, press two small eyes onto each finger near the top before the chocolate sets.
  8. Create the wrinkles: Use a toothpick or small knife to gently drag lines across the chocolate coating to mimic knuckles and wrinkles, while chocolate is still soft.
  9. Set the chocolate: Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes, or until chocolate is completely firm.
  10. Serve and enjoy: Carefully peel the pretzel rods off the parchment paper. Arrange on a platter and serve.

Notes

If chocolate thickens while working, microwave for 10 seconds to loosen. If almond slivers fall off, press gently—don’t push too hard. For a dairy-free version, use dairy-free white chocolate chips and coconut oil. For vegan, use vegan white chocolate. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. Freeze for up to 2 months.
