A quick and festive snack perfect for kids’ parties and holiday celebrations, featuring pretzel rods dipped in chocolate and decorated with red, white, and blue toppings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2025 pretzel rods (sturdy, thick rods recommended)
  • 12 ounces (340 g) chocolate chips or melting wafers (white, milk, or dark chocolate)
  • Red, white, and blue sprinkles (jimmies, stars, or nonpareils)
  • Red and blue colored sugar crystals
  • Mini marshmallows (optional)
  • Chopped nuts like peanuts or almonds (optional, skip for nut allergies)
  • Shredded coconut (unsweetened or lightly sweetened, optional)
  • Food-safe edible glitter or stars (optional)
  • Wax or parchment paper (for setting the dipped pretzels)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace by lining a baking sheet with wax or parchment paper and setting out small bowls with sprinkles, sugar crystals, and other toppings for easy access.
  2. Melt 12 ounces (340 g) of your chosen chocolate chips or melting wafers in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on medium power for 30 seconds, stir, then continue microwaving in 15-second bursts, stirring each time until smooth. Alternatively, melt chocolate over a double boiler on low heat, stirring gently until smooth (about 3-5 minutes total).
  3. Hold a pretzel rod by one end and dip it about two-thirds of the way into the melted chocolate. Twist slightly while pulling it out to get an even coating. Let excess chocolate drip back into the bowl for a few seconds.
  4. Immediately sprinkle your choice of red, white, and blue sprinkles, sugar crystals, or other toppings onto the chocolate-coated part. Work quickly before the chocolate sets.
  5. Place the dipped and decorated pretzel rods on the prepared baking sheet. Allow them to set at room temperature for 20-30 minutes or refrigerate for 10-15 minutes for faster setting (avoid freezer to prevent cracking).
  6. Repeat dipping and decorating until all pretzel rods are coated. Reheat chocolate gently if it thickens.
  7. Once chocolate is fully set, arrange pretzels on a festive platter and serve. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature or refrigerated if warm.

Notes

Use thicker pretzel rods for easier dipping and better chocolate hold. Stir chocolate often while melting to prevent scorching. Let melted chocolate cool slightly before dipping to help toppings stick. Apply toppings immediately after dipping. Store leftovers in airtight container; refrigeration helps prevent melting but may reduce crispness. If chocolate seizes, stir in a tiny bit of vegetable oil or shortening to smooth it out.
