A quick and fun recipe featuring hot dogs wrapped in tortillas, fried to a crispy golden brown, and coated with a tangy, spicy firecracker glaze that kids will love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 regular beef or chicken hot dogs
  • 8 small flour tortillas (about 6 inches diameter)
  • 2 cups vegetable or canola oil for frying
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha sauce
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Optional garnishes: chopped green onions, sesame seeds, shredded cheese

Instructions

  1. Prepare the firecracker glaze by whisking together ½ cup ketchup, 2 tablespoons honey, 1 tablespoon sriracha, 1 teaspoon soy sauce, 1 teaspoon rice vinegar, and 1 teaspoon garlic powder until smooth. Set aside.
  2. Lay out each small flour tortilla on a clean surface. Place one hot dog at the edge and roll it tightly, tucking in the ends to seal as much as possible. Secure with a toothpick if needed.
  3. Heat 2 cups of vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large heavy-bottomed skillet to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Carefully place 2-3 wrapped hot dogs into the hot oil at a time. Fry for 3-4 minutes, turning occasionally, until tortillas are golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  5. While still warm, brush or drizzle the firecracker glaze over the crispy hot dogs. Garnish with chopped green onions, sesame seeds, or shredded cheese if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

Maintain oil temperature at 350°F for best crispiness. Wrap tortillas tightly to prevent sogginess. Warm tortillas slightly if they crack when wrapping. Reheat leftovers in a skillet to retain crispiness. For gluten-free, use corn tortillas or lettuce leaves. Vegetarian versions can use plant-based hot dogs or smoked tofu.
