These adorable mini football helmet cheeseball bites are the perfect game day snack. Made with a creamy cheese mixture, coated in crushed pretzels, and topped with a pretzel stick facemask, they’re fun, delicious, and sure to be a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup finely crushed pretzels
  • 24 mini pretzel sticks
  • Optional for decoration: small pieces of red or yellow bell pepper, tiny dollop of cream cheese

Instructions

  1. Soften the cream cheese: Take cream cheese out of fridge at least 30 minutes before starting. If in a hurry, microwave for 10-15 seconds on low power.
  2. Mix the cheese base: In a medium mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar, grated Parmesan, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cayenne (if using), and a pinch of salt and pepper. Beat with a hand mixer on medium speed until smooth and well combined. Scrape down sides of bowl at least once. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  3. Chill the mixture: Cover bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 15-20 minutes until firm enough to shape.
  4. Crush the pretzels: While cheese mixture chills, crush pretzels into fine crumbs (texture of sand) using a food processor or rolling pin in a ziplock bag. Set aside in a shallow bowl.
  5. Shape the cheese balls: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Using slightly damp hands, scoop about 1 tablespoon of mixture and roll into a ball, then shape into a small football (slightly elongated with pointed ends). Place on prepared baking sheet. Repeat with remaining mixture to make 20-24 mini footballs.
  6. Add the pretzel coating: Roll each shaped cheese football in crushed pretzel crumbs, pressing gently so crumbs stick. Ensure entire surface is covered. Place coated footballs back on baking sheet.
  7. Create the facemasks: Take a mini pretzel stick and gently press it into the front of each cheese football, curving slightly to form a ‘C’ shape. Break pretzel sticks in half if too long. Press gently to secure.
  8. Final chill: Refrigerate baking sheet for another 10 minutes to let everything set.
  9. Decorate (optional): Use small pieces of red or yellow bell pepper to create stripes on helmets, using a tiny dab of cream cheese as glue. Or leave plain.
  10. Serve and enjoy: Arrange on a platter with extra pretzel sticks, crackers, or veggie sticks for dipping.

Notes

Keep hands damp when shaping to prevent sticking. Don’t over-crush pretzels; aim for sand-like consistency. Chill between steps for best results. Can be made ahead up to 24 hours. For gluten-free, use gluten-free pretzels. For vegan, use plant-based cream cheese and vegan cheddar.
