A quick and easy brunch recipe featuring toasted bagels topped with whipped everything cream cheese, smoked salmon, creamy avocado, and fresh toppings arranged beautifully on a board for a crowd-pleasing, interactive meal.

  • 4 bagels (plain, everything, or your favorite variety), sliced and toasted
  • 6 ounces smoked salmon, thinly sliced
  • 2 ripe Hass avocados, sliced or mashed
  • 8 ounces full-fat cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons everything bagel seasoning
  • 12 tablespoons capers, rinsed if preferred
  • Β½ small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved (optional)
  • Β½ cucumber, thinly sliced into ribbons or rounds
  • Olive oil, for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Place 8 ounces of softened cream cheese in a mixing bowl. Add 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice and 2 teaspoons of everything bagel seasoning. Whip with a hand mixer or stand mixer on medium-high speed until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes. Add a teaspoon of milk or cream if needed to loosen the texture.
  2. Slice 4 bagels in half and toast until golden and slightly crisp, keeping a chewy center. Set aside on the serving board or plate.
  3. Cut 2 ripe Hass avocados in half, remove pits, and scoop out the flesh. Slice thinly or mash with a fork, adding a squeeze of lemon juice to prevent browning. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
  4. Thinly slice Β½ small red onion, halve 1 cup cherry tomatoes, and slice Β½ cucumber into ribbons or rounds. Chop 2 tablespoons fresh dill for garnish.
  5. Arrange the toasted bagel halves, dollops of whipped everything cream cheese, sliced avocado, smoked salmon, capers, and all other toppings on a wooden board.
  6. Drizzle olive oil over avocado and tomatoes, sprinkle additional everything bagel seasoning if desired, and garnish with fresh dill. Serve immediately and encourage guests to build their own bagel creations.

Notes

Whip cream cheese until light and airy for best spreadability. Prepare cream cheese and toppings ahead but assemble just before serving to avoid soggy bagels. Use lemon juice to prevent avocado browning. Quality smoked salmon and ripe avocados enhance flavor. Dairy-free and gluten-free substitutions are possible.
